This month, students are learning about making healthy snack choices. Students are also learning that plants grow from seeds and seeds are full of nutrients. Garbanzo beans are seeds too!
Here are three ways to enjoy garbanzo beans:
- Make a salad. Rinse cooked or canned garbanzo beans and toss with cucumbers, onions, bell peppers, cheese and a favorite dressing.
- Put hummus in sandwiches and wraps with tomatoes and cucumbers. Hummus is a great tasting dip made from garbanzo beans.
- Make a crunchy snack. Rinse canned garbanzo beans, pat dry, then bake at 450 degrees for 30-40 minutes. Sprinkle with your favorite spices like cinnamon and sugar or chili powder and serve.
Plan ahead and save money by using dried beans. One pound of dried garbanzo beans makes the same amount as 4 ½ cans! Follow the cooking instructions on the package, then divide into smaller portions. Label and freeze.
